Fourth of July Fireworks

As of this morning the California District 38 Fireworks Stand is open for business. Whether you need sparklers for the kids, piccolo pete’s for the bigger kids or a huge assortment for the whole block, you can find it all down at the fireworks stand.

All proceeds from the stand go to the district.

So if you plan on celebrating Independence Day in one of the communities where fireworks are legal this weekend then please come out and purchase some fireworks.

We look forward to seeing you this week and we’d like to wish everyone a Happy and safe Independence Day.

The stand is located at Del Amo & Palo Verde in Lakewood next to 7-11, driving directions can be found here.

Also the new tournament eligibility tool is still available should you need to check an individual players eligibility or even an entire team roster.

2009 All Star Champions

All of our District All Star tournaments have been completed which means its time now once again to congratulate all of our players, coaches, parents, fans, volunteers and officials on another successful round of All Star tournaments. But, it also means its time to single out for recognition those teams who will be continuing on to the various section tournaments occurring around the area.

One addition to our site redesign has been the addition of an account on scribd.com to host and embed our documents. This comes with some wonderful additions and some unfortunate subtractions and we wanted to take a moment to detail all of these and more in a post about how to use the new scribd iPaper player.

When viewing one of our embedded documents you are presented with the controls shown above, providing of course that you have flash available, these controls can be a tad overwhelming at first glance so heres your crash course into how to use them all, moving from left to right here we go.

Open link @ scribd.com – This option does exactly what it says, it will open the embedded documents directly at scribd.com instead of at the district web site.
Access More Options – Gives you access to many options, including printing, saving, sending and embedding the documents, all of which we encourage you to do. NOTE: saving unfortunately requires an account on scribd and we apologize for this, if you need to save a document we encourage you to contact us instead.
Magnify Controls – Allows you to zoom in/out on the current page of the document.
Page Control - Allows you to flip between pages if the document spans multiple pages.
Tile Mode – Lays out each page of the document in a miniature form provided the document spans multiple pages.
Text Selector – Used to highlight text for various reasons
Search doc – Allows you to search the document currently being displayed
Fill Screen – Allows the document to be maximized in the window (doesn’t always work)

All Star & Select Tournaments 2009

All of our 2009 All Star and Select Tournaments have been posted on our tournaments page for some time, but we have neglected on posting them to our front page and we wanted to rectify that now. Some of these tourneys are already underway and at least one has finished, however we wanted to ensure that the tournaments were all listed here.

We wanted to take a time out to congratulate and thank every team, league and volunteer for a successful TOC tournament schedule again this year. A lot of time, sweat and dedication came together to create an atmosphere for every child involved to play in a rewarding enviornment and for that we wanted to thank you all.

We also wanted to single out for congratulations the victors of each of our TOC Tournaments which are as follows.

The bracketing for the TOC and All Leagues tournament are now posted on our tournaments page. We have also made sure to post these brackets on our new scribd account.

We have also posted links to many of the necessary tournament forms, including affadavits, II(d) and IV(h) waivers (in case you did not file them earlier), the 2009 tournament age chart matrix for determining proper league age, and links to Little League online’s tournament resources page in case you need any more pertinent information.

The last three years of Safety Class rosters are available in case you need to check if your safety card is current. Each tournament championship has been posted to our calendar and can easily be added to your own calendar as well.

Lastly if any of these documents can not be accessed for any reason please contact us immediately and we will try to send you the files directly.

Western Region Clinics

There are a number of events upcoming at Western Region Headquarters in San Bernadino.

These include instruction on Umpiring, Scorekeeping as well multiple Rules Clinics, just to name a few. For more details or to sign up for one of these clinics please visit the Western Region Event Sign Up page.

All Star Champions

The various All Star Tournmanets have been completed and we would like to congratulate every team on a successful tournament. The champions of each tournament are listed below, as well as information on where each team is headed in their upcoming section tournament.

9 and 10 Year Old All Stars: Lakewood Village
10 and 11 Year Old All Stars: Long Beach
Major All Stars: Long Beach
Junior All Stars: Greater Bellflower

The 9 and 10 Year Old Section 5 Tournament is being hosted by Villa Park Little League, and directed by California District 30 at Cerro Villa Middle School, and Lakewood Village’s first game will be tomorrow, July 12, 2008 at 1:00 PM against District 29. If you would like to follow their progress there is a bracket available at the District 30 website.

The 10 and 11 Year Old Section 5 Tournament will be directed by California District 38, and hosted by Long Beach Little League at Stearns Champions Park. Long Beach’s first game will be tomorrow, July 12, 2008 at 6:00 PM against District 30. If you would like to follow their progress there is a bracket available on our tournaments page.

The Major All Stars Section 5 Tournament will be hosted by South West Santa Ana Little League, and directed by District 30 at Memorial Park in Santa Ana. Long Beach’s first game will be tomorrow, July 12, 2008 at 12:00 PM against District 56.

The Junior All Stars Section 5 Tournament will be directed by District 29, at Lake Center Athletic Park in Santa Fe Springs. Greater Bellflowers first game will be tomorrow, July 12, 2008 at 4:00 PM against District 56.
